Biography
Dr Nicoletta Orphanou is a Consultant Cardiologist based in Nicosia, Cyprus.
She graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. With a particular interest in cardiomyopathies and inherited cardiac disease, she subsequently spent a year in research at the Centre of Molecular Cardiology and Inherited Cardiac Diseases at Fondazione Salvatore Maugeri in Pavia, Italy, working in the fields of cardiomyopathies and cardiac arrhythmias.
She completed her specialist training in Cardiology at Nicosia General Hospital and G. Gennimatas General Hospital in Athens. During this period, she was also involved in research and clinical work related to inherited cardiac diseases and sudden cardiac death.
Following completion of her Cardiology training, she undertook a fellowship in echocardiography at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, with a focus on advanced transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, valvular heart disease and echocardiography in acute cardiac care.
Her clinical interests include cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease and cardiovascular imaging, particularly transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography.
Dr Orphanou is Secretary of the Cyprus Society of Cardiology and President of its Working Group of Cardiovascular Imaging.
